FYI I am now able to build Spec on PPC OSX 10.5, however the mac mini G4 I have is not powerful enough to process audio through Spec. If you don't have an Intel mac but do have a PPC G5 running 10.5 I'd like to see if it works. Reply to this thread and we'll give it a go. |

Im sorry for my previous post, I had the impression that Z Automatic Gain 2.0 Result would be filled automatically when I ran ZAG Mode = Measure Levels, now I know that only when I change ZAG Mode = Apply Gain will the Z Automatic Gain 2.0 Result get filled, I got it working already. |

Hi First post here. I'm a total newbie at this, especially the technical parts. I read the guides here (spec 4.0, spec and zag) downloaded SPEC 4.4 for mac, loaded up Bidule and got started. The first problem I got was while trying to add an audio device to the patchbay, Bidule says only one can be on at any time. However, with only SPEC loaded, there isn't any other audio device there. The weird part is, this happens everytime after I open or insert the SPEC bidule and continues even if I open a new file. So the bug appears to be in Bidule but triggered by SPEC. The workaround I finally arrived at was to change the order, load the audio device (output) first and then Bidule. The workflow I followed is: created a single wav+cue for the album. loaded it into the audio file player au. setup SPEC (using ArcTan). then followed the tracktime instructions to use Zag. I then copied the gain values Zag spat out into the SPEC config windows, and replayed the album, recording six wav files. I hope this is the correct procedure? I'd appreciate it if someone confirms this. As recommended by Zeerround, I tried to use Vortex Surround Encoder to convert the resulting 6 mono wavs, but it tells me the files are "maybe corrupted". Can somebody who has used this app help me out here? I really don't know what I did wrong. Each of the individual wavs plays fine all the way...I'm at a dead-end here, Thanks for the great guides and for making this process available so even a total newb like me can try his hand at it. |

Welcome! I think the error message you mentioned is actually misleading in that what it's really trying to say is that you cannot add an audio device if offline processing is checked in the edit menu. Uncheck that first, and you should be fine. Zag is a two step process. You run the entire album with zag set for measure levels, then again with apply gains. That 2nd step is where you do your recording. Don't have access to a Mac at the moment so I'm not sure what file format the encoder wants. I would guess at 24 bit aiff but maybe 24 bit wave? A common problem on windows is the default usage of wave extensible in plogue preferences. That should be set to never, or you end up exactly the issue you are reporting on osx. I'm traveling this week but will try to make some osx videos soon. |
